More than 20 years ago, I had a vision driven by my belief that all investors deserve access to the same high quality alternative managers, traditionally available only to institutions. With Altegris, I’ve made that vision a reality. In fact, in building the business, I’ve used much of the same skills I acquired as a life-long surfer, such as seeing possibilities, knowing how to plan for different conditions quickly, and, ultimately, riding the waves well.
Jon Sundt has 25+ years of experience in the alternative investment industry. He founded Altegris and is President and CEO of Altegris Investments, Altegris Advisors, and Altegris Funds. Jon is a member of the Altegris Investment Committee as well as a co-portfolio manager of the company’s mutual funds.
Jon began his career as an options trader in 1986. Prior to founding Altegris, Jon served six years as Director of Managed Accounts and Senior Vice President of the Managed Investments Division of Man Financial, a subsidiary of the Man Group — the world’s largest hedge fund provider. An expert in managed futures and alternative investment strategies, Jon is widely quoted by leading financial media (CNBC, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal) and a variety of industry publications. Jon was a recipient of the Institutional Investor Mutual Fund Rising Star award.
In his leadership role for the Altegris group of companies, Jon also championed the development of the Altegris.net performance reporting system, the Altegris 40 Index® and Altegris Analytics, which gives investors the ability to analyze and build portfolios of alternative investment managers. Jon majored in computer science and minored in economics at the University of California, San Diego.
Jon is an active member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), serving on the board of the YPO Coastal San Diego. He has also been a member of Vistage International, the world's largest CEO organization, for over seven years. Jon is also the Founder and President of Natural High, a nonprofit organization committed to preventing substance abuse among today’s youth, serving over 12,000 schools and six million youth.
